The basalt stones have a very high level of iron and magnesium, which are both hard metallic elements found in rock. These elements enable the stones to retain the heat for long periods of time. Also, the stones high density allows for slow heat dispersion. It works on what the body needs. If the stones lose heat quickly in one particular area, it is because that area needs the heat to help heal. The constant heat increases circulation. If circulation is increased, then so is nutrition, and the way that every cell in the body functions. When blood flow through the skin is increased, liver, bowels and kidneys detoxification is increased also. The temperature of the stone is transferred to the body by means of conduction. The longer the application the deeper the penetration which can reach up to 1.5” into the superficial layer of the muscle. There will also be an increase in red and white blood cells and for every 34*F (1*C) rise in the body’s internal temperature, the metabolism is increased by 10-15%. This in term aids in the treatment of weakened conditions by stimulating and detoxification, increasing circulation, increasing cell metabolism increasing blood and lymph which assists in waste and toxin removal.
